as of: 01.28.2006: A Conversation With Camille

scene: mommy is at the fridge, getting some water

camille: thirsty?
mommy: oh, you're thirsty? you want some water?
camille: yah.
mommy: (pours some water in a sippy cup) here you go.
camille: thank you.

boy, camille's already talking up a storm! also, she knows who everyone is--ask her "where's daddy", "where's mommy", "where's mama mench" and she'll go ahead and point, say "there" or do the "no more!" gesture.

camille: "thank you", "there", "over here", "there you go", "hello" (very clearly, instead of the we-think-it's-hello-but-maybe-not.
amelie: "there", "jojo" (after jojo's circus. then again, she was pointing to goliath)

camille: "stroller", "wagon", and most amazing of all..."helicopter". They have a Baby Einstein DVD "On The Go", which shows different vehicles...oh, and when they showed a baby, Camille said "baby" too!

amelie: um...

Well, Merry Christmas, folks.

camille: at church, picking up an offering envelope: "what's this?", which came out as "was deys?"; "go"; "doh" (dog)

amelie: "go", "glasses", "doh" (dog)

oh, and they've learned to shred stuff. Nightmare.

Lots of new words today, after watching Baby Wordsmith:

camille: flower ("flowah"), couch ("owch"), ball ("boh"), tree ("tuh-reeh"), dog ("dog"), cat ("at") and swing ("swee")

amelie? she was busy eating. oh dear.

amelie: there. As in

Mommy: "Where's Daddy?"
Amelie: "There!"

Of course, it sounds like "they-uh".

No updates for a while...it's just that the kids haven't really said anything intelligible over the past couple of weeks. Oh, they babble, especially Camille, but on the whole they just do twinspeak.

Which worries me a bit, but I guess Sabrina, my niece, took a while to talk, too. So I'll give it some time.

Camille did say some things during our trip to New Mexico, though...

camille: Dorothy (while watching Hot Potatoes Live!)
utot -- "fart" in tagalog (this after her fart stunk up the joint)
basa -- "wet" in tagalog (this after waking up with a full diaper)
"F" and "H"

amelie: Wow. Wait, that's not new.

It's like Amelie's just taking it easy, waiting until Camille speaks before she follows suit.
